Lectio Divina

Divine reading, an ancient practice of prayerful Scripture meditation, designed to foster a deep, personal encounter with God.

The process involves four key steps:

lectio (reading), where you slowly and attentively read a passage of Scripture;

meditatio (meditation), in which you reflect on the text and allow it to speak to your heart;

oratio (prayer), a time for responding to God’s Word with your own prayers; and

contemplatio (contemplation), where you simply rest in God’s presence, allowing the Scripture to transform your life.

And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.” 25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. 28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

Although the doors were closed, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ 27 Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your 21finger here, and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.’ 28 Thomas replied, ‘My Lord and my God!’f 29 Jesus said to him: ‘Do you believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.’g 30 Jesus did many other signs in the sight of the disciples, which are not written in this book. 31 These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

She saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb 2 and came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have put him.’ 3 So Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb. 4 The two ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first; 5 he bent down and saw the linen cloths lying there, but did not go in. 6 Simon Peter, following him, also came up, went into the tomb, saw the linen cloths lying there 7 and also the cloth that had been on his head; this was not with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw and he believed. 9 Till this moment they had still not understood the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.

[9:27f] Blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heavens!’ 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil as people asked, ‘Who is this?’ 11 and the crowds answered, ‘This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.’

Mary remained sitting in the house. 21 Martha said to Jesus, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died, 22 but even now I know that God will grant whatever you ask of him.’ 23 Jesus said to her, ‘Your brother will rise again.’ 24 Martha said to him, ‘I know he will rise again at the resurrection on the last day.’ 25 Jesus said to her: ‘I am the resurrectionb and life. He said to them, ‘He put a paste on my eyes, and I washed, and I can see.’ 16 Then some of the Pharisees said, ‘That man is not from God: he does not keep the Sabbath.’ Others said, ‘How can a sinner produce such signs?’ And there was division among them. 17 So they said to the blind man again, ‘What have you to say about him – as it was your eyes he opened?’ The man answered, ‘He is a prophet.’ 18 However, the Jews would not believe that the man had been blind and had come to see till they had sent for the parents of the man who had come to see and 19 asked them, ‘Is this man your son whom you say was born blind? If so, how can he now see?’ 20 His parents answered, ‘We know that he is our son and that he was born blind, 21 but how he can see, we do not know, nor who opened his eyes. Ask him. He is of age: he will speak for himself.’ 22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that anyone who acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah should be banned from the synagogue. 23 This was why his parents said, ‘He is of age: ask him.’ 24 So the Jews sent a second time for the man who had been blind and said to him, ‘Give glory to God! We know that this man is a sinner.’ 25 He answered, ‘Whether he is a sinner I don’t know; one thing I do know is that though I was blind I can now see.’ 26 They said to him, ‘What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?’ 27 He replied, ‘I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples yourselves?’ 28 At this they hurled abuse at him, ‘You are his disciple, we are disciples of Moses. 29 We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.’ 30 The man replied, ‘The amazing thing is this: that you do not know where he comes from and he has opened my eyes! 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners, but God does listen to someone who reveres God and does his will. 32 Ever since the world began it is unheard of that anyone should open the eyes of someone born blind; 33 if this man were not from God, he would not have been able to do anything.’ 34 They answered and said to him, ‘You were born wholly in sin, and are you teaching us?’ And they drove him out...
