Lectio Divina

Divine reading, an ancient practice of prayerful Scripture meditation, designed to foster a deep, personal encounter with God.

The process involves four key steps:

lectio (reading), where you slowly and attentively read a passage of Scripture;

meditatio (meditation), in which you reflect on the text and allow it to speak to your heart;

oratio (prayer), a time for responding to God’s Word with your own prayers; and

contemplatio (contemplation), where you simply rest in God’s presence, allowing the Scripture to transform your life.

He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. 7 So again Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and bandits, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.” 25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. 28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.’ 28 Thomas replied, ‘My Lord and my God!’f 29 Jesus said to him: ‘Do you believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.’g 30 Jesus did many other signs in the sight of the disciples, which are not written in this book. 31 These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

She saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb 2 and came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have put him.’ 3 So Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb. 4 The two ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first; 5 he bent down and saw the linen cloths lying there, but did not go in. 6 Simon Peter, following him, also came up, went into the tomb, saw the linen cloths lying there 7 and also the cloth that had been on his head; this was not with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw and he believed. 9 Till this moment they had still not understood the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.

[9:27f] Blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heavens!’ 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil as people asked, ‘Who is this?’ 11 and the crowds answered, ‘This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.’
