He was born blind so that the works of God<br \/>\nmight be revealed in him.<br \/>\n4 \u2018As long as day lasts<br \/>\nwe must carry out the work of the one who sent me.<br \/>\nNight is coming when no one can work.<br \/>\n5 As long as I am in the world<br \/>\nI am the light of the world.\u2019<br \/>\n6 Having said this, he spat on the ground, made a paste with the<br \/>\nsaliva, spread it on the man\u2019s eyes, 7 and said to him, \u2018Go and wash<br \/>\nin the Pool of Siloam\u2019 (which means \u2018Sent\u2019).b So he went off and<br \/>\nwashed and came back able to see.<br \/>\n8 His neighbours and people who had earlier seen that he was a<br \/>\nbeggar said, \u2018Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?\u2019 9 Some<br \/>\nsaid, \u2018It is.\u2019 Others said, \u2018No, but he is like the man.\u2019 The man himself<br \/>\nsaid, \u2018Yes, I am the one.\u2019 10 So they said to him, \u2018Then how were<br \/>\nyour eyes opened?\u2019 11 He answered, \u2018The man called Jesus made a<br \/>\npaste, spread it on my eyes and said to me, \u201cGo off and wash at<br \/>\nSiloam.\u201d So I went and washed and could see.\u2019 12 They said to him,<br \/>\n\u2018Where is he?\u2019 He answered, \u2018I do not know.\u2019<br \/>\n13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.<br \/>\n14 It had been a Sabbath when Jesus made the paste and opened the<br \/>\nman\u2019s eyes, 15 so the Pharisees asked him again how he had come<br \/>\nto see. He said to them, \u2018He put a paste on my eyes, and I washed,<br \/>\nand I can see.\u2019 16 Then some of the Pharisees said, \u2018That man is not<br \/>\nfrom God: he does not keep the Sabbath.\u2019 Others said, \u2018How can a<br \/>\nsinner produce such signs?\u2019 And there was division among them.<br \/>\n17 So they said to the blind man again, \u2018What have you to say about<br \/>\nhim \u2013 as it was your eyes he opened?\u2019 The man answered, \u2018He is a<br \/>\nprophet.\u2019<br \/>\n18 However, the Jews would not believe that the man had been<br \/>\nblind and had come to see till they had sent for the parents of the<br \/>\nman who had come to see and 19 asked them, \u2018Is this man your son<br \/>\nwhom you say was born blind? If so, how can he now see?\u2019 20 His<br \/>\nparents answered, \u2018We know that he is our son and that he was born<br \/>\nblind, 21 but how he can see, we do not know, nor who opened his<br \/>\neyes. Ask him. He is of age: he will speak for himself.\u2019 22 His<br \/>\nparents said this because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews<br \/>\nhad already agreed that anyone who acknowledged Jesus as the<br \/>\nMessiah should be banned from the synagogue. 23 This was why<br \/>\nhis parents said, \u2018He is of age: ask him.\u2019<br \/>\n24 So the Jews sent a second time for the man who had been blind<br \/>\nand said to him, \u2018Give glory to God! We know that this man is a<br \/>\nsinner.\u2019 25 He answered, \u2018Whether he is a sinner I don\u2019t know; one<br \/>\nthing I do know is that though I was blind I can now see.\u2019 26 They<br \/>\nsaid to him, \u2018What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?\u2019<br \/>\n27 He replied, \u2018I have told you already and you did not listen. Why<br \/>\ndo you want to hear it again?
