However, upon deeper reflection, we see that Jesus is calling us out of our mediocrity. He challenges us to ignite a fire within— to live our faith with passion and purpose. This is a radical call to action.

Maximilian Kolbe: A Life of Radical Commitment
The Feast Day of Maximilian Kolbe falls on August 14th. His life, filled with radical commitment and self-sacrifice, provides a profound example of the fire Jesus speaks of in Luke 12. Kolbe’s story can ignite a fire in the heart of others.

Ordained at the age of 24, Maximilian Kolbe witnessed widespread religious indifference, which he viewed as a grave danger to the Spirit. He dedicated his life to fighting this indifference, founding the Militia of the Immaculata, a movement focused on spreading the Good News through prayer, work, and suffering. He also established the City of the Immaculata, a community dedicated to faith, prayer, and serving others. His mission grew exponentially, with millions of members joining his cause.

In 1939, Nazi forces invaded Poland, and Kolbe’s beloved Niepokalanów was bombed. Despite this, he remained steadfast to God’s mission. In 1941, Kolbe was arrested again, but this time, his captors sought to eliminate the leaders.

During his time in Auschwitz, Kolbe exhibited extraordinary courage. When a prisoner was selected for execution, Kolbe volunteered to take his place, knowing it meant certain death. His selfless act saved the life of a fellow prisoner and became a powerful witness to the sacrificial love of Christ. Kolbe died after weeks of starvation, praying and singing hymns with fellow prisoners until his final moments. He was beatified in 1971 and canonized in 1982.

The Power of Passion and Sacrifice
Kolbe’s life exemplifies the fire of passion, commitment, and purpose that Jesus calls us to embrace. It is not a fire of destruction, but one of purification and renewal. Maximilian Kolbe’s willingness to sacrifice his life for another demonstrates the radical love and justice that Jesus calls us to embody.
In a world that often prioritises convenience and self-preservation, Kolbe’s example challenges us to lay down our lives for the good of others— just as Christ did. This fire is not one of destruction but of transformation, calling us to live a life of holiness, justice, and unwavering love.

Call to Action:
Reflect on Kolbe’s life and the Gospel message of fire this week. How can you ignite your own passion for faith and purpose? How is God calling you to lay everything on the line for the greater good? Let us take a step toward radical commitment to our faith, following the example of Maximilian Kolbe, as we strive to live out the Gospel with a fire in our belly.

by Virginia Ryan

A Fire of Passion and Purpose in Luke 12:49-53In this week’s Gospel reading, Luke 12:49-53, Jesus proclaims a bold and startling message: He has come to bring fire, not peace. “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” (Luke 12:49).This may seem like an unusual proclamation […]

[17
38,45,26,44,24,55,8,32,50,41,25,51,34,54,47,31,42,39,48,46,52,40,37,35,28,43,53,36,27,33,29
post-27939","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-newsletter","tag-ancient-wisdom","tag-contemplative-prayer","tag-enlightenment","tag-guided-meditation","tag-inner-peace","tag-introspection","tag-lectio-divina","tag-lectio-divina-for-beginners","tag-life-transformation","tag-meditation-guide","tag-meditation-mastery","tag-meditation-tips","tag-mindfulness","tag-mindfulness-meditation","tag-mindfulness-practices","tag-mindfulness-techniques","tag-personal-development","tag-reflect-and-transform","tag-reflective-living","tag-sacred-reading","tag-self-discovery","tag-self-help","tag-soulful-journey","tag-soulful-living","tag-spiritual-awakening","tag-spiritual-growth","tag-spiritual-guide","tag-spiritual-insights","tag-spiritual-practice","tag-spiritual-reflection","tag-transformative-journey
["https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe.png",1032,575,false
https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe-150x150.png",150,150,true
https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe-300x167.png",300,167,true
https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe-768x428.png",768,428,true
https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe-1024x571.png",1024,571,true],"1536x1536":["https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe.png",1032,575,false],"2048x2048":["https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe.png",1032,575,false],"menu-24x24":["https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe-24x13.png",24,13,true],"menu-36x36":["https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe-36x20.png",36,20,true],"menu-48x48":["https://lectiodivina.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/kolbe-48x27.png",48,27,true
A Fire of Passion and Purpose in Luke 12:49-53In this week’s Gospel reading, Luke 12:49-53, Jesus proclaims a bold and startling message: He has come to bring fire, not peace. “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” (Luke 12:49).This may seem like an unusual proclamation…
["GET
